The publication of The Naturalist began in 1931 and has continued uninterrupted for more than nine decades. The original goal of the journal was to provide a popular publication on natural history, a purpose that despite many changes in appearance over the years, has remained the same ever since. Today it is a peer-reviewed academic periodical with articles covering all of the Natural Sciences.

In 2018, I redesigned the magazine and up to the end of 2024 produced 15 print runs of 29 issues in total; four issues in each volume and a 140 page extra issue about lake Þingvallavatn.
